How has community service impacted your life?
Community service has made me realize that I could do so much for my community and people all around me. It's an opportunity for people to come together to do something they like. Because of community service, I have a better understanding of what goes on at events and a little bit about the amount of effort put into it. I have also developed better communication skills from meeting new people while volunteering.
Why did you start volunteering with HIM?
I started volunteering with HIM because my friends encouraged me to join with them and I had previously volunteered before and enjoyed it. Also, I felt that HIM would be a great opportunity to help others in my community and meet new people. I enjoyed volunteering; however, I found it difficult to find places with volunteer opportunities and it wasn't fun doing it alone. In HIM, you get to meet new people from different schools and choose from many events to volunteer at, as well as have a great time. I also had some free time where I felt I wasn't doing anything, so I thought I might as well try to do something that would benefit me and my community. Helping a community can be a lot of things, and being in HIM was a great way for me to start.
What is one of your favorite memories or events from HIM?
One of my favorite events from HIM was the Hot Chocolate Run. It was one of the bigger events where there was an exceptional amount of volunteers. Even though I had to wake up before dark and it was raining, it was so much fun helping with making the chocolate mugs. And while working, I was able to simply hang out and talk with my friends which made it really enjoyable. It got kinda messy though, and rain water was coming through into the tent .. haha!
How has your experience been working with HIM?
I love working with HIM now. In the beginning, I didn't really know anyone so it was kind of weird. But when people smile from what we do, it makes everything we do worth it. I still feel really tired from waking up so early for some morning events, but by the end of each event I've been to, I always end up smiling because it's really fun just talking to new people who also want to help the community.
What kind of food do you like to eat? Why?
I think I like a little bit of everything. If I were to be a bit more specific, maybe chips, candy, noodles, ice cream, chocolate, strawberries, raspberries, and loquat. Most of what I listed was not very healthy and I try not to eat those anymore, but I love fruits because they are so good!
